
Materials Engineer POSITION SUMMARY: Utilize skills in materials sciences to support new product development, research, failure analysis and ongoing manufacturing operations. Successful hands-on candidate will interact closely with all business areas. Primary role will be development and validation of new materials for implanted medical devices and related accessories.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate on interdepartmental teams for early new product development
- Identify and evaluate candidate materials for appropriateness to new and existing applications
- Support manufacturing process enhancements and qualifications
- Conduct Failure Analysis of returned product, including writing reports and summaries
- Design and conduct materials testing
- Assist with regulatory compliance evaluations
QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/MS/PhD in Materials Science/Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Physics or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years relevant experience in at least three of the following:
- Failure analysis
- Compositional analysis (bulk & surface)
- Mechanical or rheological test methods
- Ceramic formulations and application
- Polymer formulations and application
- Implanted medical devices
- Biocompatible and/or bioactive coatings
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated
- Results and team oriented
